DANNY SUMBLER BIOGRAPHY

Born on the 23rd November in the year of 1972, on the south coast of old Albion, with a star in his palm and a baby wolf-like howl, Danny Sumbler greeted the world. Raised by his parents; his mother an artist and healer, and mover and shaker for the CND movement in the early 1980’s, his father also an artist with a keen eye for the unusual. He was, at first, a shy boy, crying all day at his first day locked into the school prison, and commenting still now, “If they sent me back, I’d cry again!”
His early schooldays developed, and although never being a fan of the school system, he had a very happy time at his first schools, learning easily and developing a wonderful early talent for drawing and painting, much of which was picked up from his mother, herself a keen and talented artist. He adored the paintings of Modigliani, the moods they invoked, and the passion and colours in the works of Vincent Van Gogh, but it didn’t take long before his teachers tried to restrict his imaginative and creative freedom.
Music, it seemed, was always playing in his mind, and either on the radio or from the record player, as a source of healing from the wounds of the world, thus becoming an eternal passion and friend, and he needed it.
Danny recalls being about 7, and walking with his parents in a place called the
‘Devils Dyke,’ just outside of Brighton, and feeling “A rush like an ancient
energy unleashed within my being, a force and a calling, like lava gushing up
the insides of a volcano…I began, at that moment, to question our existence
here, our system and why it was created, our so called reality, and my new found
path to uncovering it’s trickery…my pathway home.”
Danny has spoken many times of this wilderness period, it’s necessity for awakening, the pain and confusion one has to suffer, and the knowing, not the belief, that keeps you going. On this subject he says,"It is in many ways like being a visionary or a prophet. It is taken out of the minds of many to understand, being that they have been temporarily blinded, though we have in our star filled hands and hearts the gifts to do great things, that the future hearts of all shall awaken to and understand someday."
By the age of 15, disillusioned with teachers not being aware of how important multiple intelligence is, and how destructive it can be not finding it within the hearts of all children, no matter what speed they learn, he was expelled from school, never for any other reason than to continue to question why?
At this time, Danny had re-found his parents record collection, which was vast in colour and sound, only this time he understood it all….it was another revelation.
Through the sounds of early Elvis, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Donovan and many more musical hearts, he found his way, eagerly listening, then quickly going out to buy his first real guitar with his father. There had always been a guitar or two in the house, Danny having his own when he was 5, and trying eagerly to play his mum’s Spanish Guitar as a baby!! But this one would be a new beginning, this time he knew what he wanted to be, and in time, would discover just how much he would be expressing through this beautiful source of art.
After a few years of learning by ear, playing with friends and finding his way, Danny got his first band together. The band worked hard, creating major interest, though he always felt there was something missing. He loved playing live, loved expressing that richly, versatile and beautifully textured voice to audiences whenever he could, but he knew that something had to change.
It took him almost ten years of solid writing, not only to fine tune his craft, but to realise that, as he’d always felt anyhow, he had to work alone. After being drawn to, and studying book after book about mystics and spirituality, from the Bhagavad Gita to the Koran, from the Bible to Pleiadian music, from Arthurian history to Native American teachings, from Kahlil Gibran to Edgar Cayce, Danny knew within his true self he’d always been a part of those beautiful ancient souls, he had just awakened once again to embrace it. His music had to deliver this message, the message that underlies every true, mystical and ancient text from every ancient school of wisdom; It had to heal the hearts of many.
By now, in the year of 2006, and coming up to a very important universal change for our Mother Earth , as well as completing a book and much poetry and prose, Danny has written over ten albums worth of music, covering many different styles, themes and inspiring many people.
His first album, ‘Dozing Giants,’ is a comment on our potential to be great if we’d only question and awaken to that fact; and his passionate and thunderous anti-war song ‘Ceasefire,’ are available to listen to and to purchase on this site. We thank you Danny for your permission to do so.
Whilst listening to the music, as Danny says in the title track ‘Dozing Giants,’ “Nothing’s as it appears to be….” Whilst listening, keep that inner ear open, and that inner voice sweet…..he may be saying a lot more than you realise ….well, for the moment anyhow….
